New Web-Based Document Management Software for Entry-Level Customers

New Web-Based Document Management Software for Entry-Level Customers

AgniTEK staff was onhand last week for the FortisBlue release party.

Westbrook® Technologies today announced a 100 percent Web-based software for managing an organization's electronic and paper documents. It is being introduced and demonstrated to the Company's resellers at its annual conference, Insight, being held next week in Orlando, FL. FortisBlue is built on Web Services, the on-ramp to the "cloud," allowing easy integration with other emerging technologies and applications.

FortisBlue captures, archives, searches, annotates, retrieves and safeguards documents for small- to mid-size organizations. It is platform independent and easily accessible from the most popular Internet browsers making it an easy to implement, affordable solution, of particular value for entry-level implementations with first-time users of document management. With zero footprint on employee computers, organizations will save a substantial amount on IT resources without sacrificing usability or processing power.

Being a thin, Rich Internet Application (RIA), FortisBlue has the characteristics of a traditional desktop client/server application, while leveraging the widespread availability of the Internet. Deployment is as simple as sending out an email with the URL to the application. Because FortisBlue looks and feels like a typical desktop application, users are able to get up and running with minimal training.

Of particular note is FortisBlue's ability to manage and annotate almost any document or file type. FortisBlue also provides workflow functions for approvals and notifications, and helps organizations meet compliance/audit requirements. An online document management solution, it has full text and metadata search, optical character recognition (OCR), document manipulation, and desktop scanning (thick client). It is well suited for use across all industries -- from finance, manufacturing and legal to healthcare, education and state/local government.

More specifically, FortisBlue includes the following features:

--  Point and shoot OCR provides keyless data entry
--  Support of nearly all file types -- more than 300
--  Built-in workflow
--  Web-based system allows administrative activity to occur from any
    computer
--  No need to install software on workstations
--  Full Unicode compliance to dynamically support multiple languages

FortisBlue also offers a robust security configuration. Administrators can create and apply security policies to each document in the repository, with the ability to also lock down folders which may be assigned to departments within the organization.

During a preliminary demonstration of the new product, Terry McKee, president of KeeFORCE, a Westbrook partner based in Kentucky, said, "FortisBlue levels the playing field by allowing small companies to have large company efficiencies and business continuity at an affordable price."

"Westbrook's flagship document management product, Fortis, continues to meet the needs of larger organizations with its tested capabilities and implementations at thousands of customer sites worldwide," said Einar Haukeland, president and CEO of Westbrook Technologies. "FortisBlue will ultimately evolve to be a scalable product that can serve the largest organizations as well, but as a Web-based, RIA solution. In the meantime, FortisBlue demonstrates our commitment and ability to serve a variety of customer needs by delivering a state-of-the-art solution based on the latest technological advances."

FortisBlue is built on the most advanced and commonly used tools and platforms including .NET Framework 3.x, JavaScript and Windows® Communication Foundation (WCF). WCF is the most frequently used Web Services platform and a part of the .NET Framework that provides a unified programming model for building service-oriented applications that communicate across the Web and the enterprise.
